A bit of progress

Here is a little update on the latest piece.  It certainly doesn't look like I've spent too much time on it but it's something and I'd rather show a little progress than none at all.  The form is definitely starting to take shape and I'm happy with how the modeling is coming along.  For some reason it feels a lot more comfortable to work on a canvas this size rather than one that's five feet long (even when the figure takes up roughly the same amount of space).  Probably something psychological as I was never one to work very large to begin with.  I must say though that I've enjoyed the few large pieces I've done and plan to do more when the subject calls for it.  It's nice to break free every now and then and push yourself to go bigger or smaller -- maybe in another direction all together.

On a side note, recent occurrences have given light to a small series of drawings that I'd like to explore. I don't want to say too much at this point since I'm still working through the idea and many things could change.  I will say that the idea feels very tight with the direction my work has been moving in which makes me really excited.  For such a long time I had felt like I didn't really know what to say with art or, better yet, how to say it; there were always reasons why the pieces didn't connect with each other.  It feels great to have this figured out at least for the time being...
