The painting is coming along really well and is nearly done, unfortunately I have to wait a few days until I can make those final touches. I had been putting off making an order to Dick Blick for a while and my medium eventually ran out on me. Rather than buy some from the local arts and craft store I put in an order for the oils as well as a few other things I've been curious to try. In the meantime I'm working out some ideas for future pieces. I will post a picture very soon.
On a side note, I went to the Whistler House Museum of Art last week and was really taken aback by the collection they have. Located in Lowell, Massachusetts, I was surprised I had never heard of it up until a few weeks ago. I was looking through one of my favorite blogs about the Grand Central Academy and saw a post about an exhibit titled "The Modern Atelier." Being so fascinated with this traditional way of learning I knew I would enjoy the work. Luckily I made it just days before they took the exhibit down. While the pieces from the atelier students were remarkable I was also very impressed by the work in the museum's permanent collection. Though mostly comprised of portraits and still lives there is a lot of variety in the different approaches taken by the artists. I would have posted some photos but cameras weren't allowed. That being said, I highly recommend checking them out sometime if you're in the Lowell area and need an art fix. I certainly plan on making another trip there very soon.
Updates coming...
